New year assault leaves man with fractured jaw

A MAN suffered a fractured jaw after an assault in Ashington on New Year’s Day.

A 31-year-old man, was walking along Second Avenue between Portia Street and Katherine Street around 4.40am on New Year’s Day, when he was approached by another man who punched him in the face, fracturing his jaw.

He required hospital treatment at the RVI in Newcastle and has since been discharged.

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact CID in Bedlington on the 101 non-emergency number.
