Nominations are open for county awards

A county-wide search for Northumberland’s environmental heroes has been launched.

Northumberland County Council’s third annual ‘LOVE Northumberland – rewarding community achievement’ awards aim to identify people and projects across the county that improve and enhance their local environment.

The awards are part of the county-wide LOVE Northumberland campaign, which aims to promote the work of the council and all its partners in keeping the county beautiful for the benefit of residents and visitors.

The awards will culminate in a presentation evening at The Alnwick Garden on Tuesday, July 22, when the Duchess of Northumberland will present prizes to winners and runners up for the third year running.

Andy Rutherford, head of highways and neighbourhood services at Northumberland County Council, said: “Every year we have been extremely impressed with the wealth of community and voluntary effort that goes on day in day out right across Northumberland.

“Through the annual LOVE Northumberland awards we aim to go some way to rewarding all of this exceptional work by highlighting just some of the projects and initiatives that make our communities great.

“I would encourage community groups and volunteers to send in nominations. The application process is not onerous and could result in a prestigious award in acknowledgement of your hard work and efforts.”

Nomination forms are available at www.northumberland.gov.uk/love, by emailing environment@northumberland.gov.uk or by calling 0845 600 6400.
