Northumberland kids get Olympic buzz ahead of a trip to the Paralympics – Video

TEN youngsters from Northumberland are off on a once in a lifetime trip to the Paralympic games.

Northumberland Sport has teamed up with Aiming High for Disabled Children to provide 10 young people with disabilities in Northumberland, along with a parent or guardian, the chance to watch Northumberland’s very own Paralympian Stephen Miller going for Gold at the Olympic Stadium.

The lucky recipients who have a range of disabilities from across Northumberland were selected following a nomination process, in which they had to demonstrate why they deserved to be selected to attend the Paralympic Games in London.

Northumberland MP Ian Lavery was at the station to meet the young people and their parents and to offer his congratulations to them ahead of the trip.

The visit to the games is part of Northumberland Sport’s ‘Bringing the Games Closer’ project, which was initially launched to mark 500 days to go until the start of the Games last year.
