Not In My Neighbourhood week to promote policing

A SERIES of events are taking place across Northumberland next week in support of a national campaign to promote neighbourhood policing.

Not In My Neighbourhood week is a national initiative to highlight work being carried out locally to make communities feel safer.

It aims to raise awareness of the range of work police are doing to keep crime down, bring everyone together to tackle issues and further strengthen the importance of local partnerships.

Chief Inspector Michael Barton, Northumberland Area Command, said: "Residents across the county should be used to seeing their neighbourhood officers out and about but they may not always realise the range of work they do or have time to stop and speak with them.

"We hope communities will use this week to report their concerns and issues to us, as well as benefiting from some of the crime prevention initiatives we are running throughout Northumberland."

In Cramlington officers are joining a community awareness day organised by Blyth Valley Borough Council on Monday, and police will be giving crime prevention advice.

On Thursday crime prevention will be given at Burnside First School and Seghill Nursery/ First School.

Officers will also be at the Seaton Delaval and Holywell Residents Association meeting on Thursday.

Bedlington will be using the area command's mobile police station on Main Street offering crime prevention and Neighbourhood Watch information.

Officers will also be going walkabout with partner agencies in the town to see first hand any issues people may have and also look at ways of providing diversionary activities for local youngsters.

Ashington Neighbourhood Team are visiting off licences which are working with the police to reduce sales of alcohol to youths.

They will also be encouraging more people to become involved in Neighbourhood Watch schemes through a leaflet drop and working with Community Wardens to identify hotspot areas for additional disorder patrols.
