A NORTHUMBERLAND man is preparing to take a team of young professionals on a five-week vocational visit to Brazil.

Rotarian Peter Tracey, from Holywell, will take on the role of team leader for the trip to the South American country, along with four other people from across the north east.

Peter, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Newcastle, said: “The Group Study Exchange (GSE) trip to Brazil is just the most wonderful opportunity for four young professional people to have an unforgettable experience, and all thanks to the wisdom and generosity and far sightedness of the rotary clubs in the north east.

“The team of four will be able to visit another world, and once there see how their own professions are organised and developed.

“As well as that, there is the whole cultural experience of living in another country for an extended period with Brazilian families.”

The GSE trip is fully funded by the Rotary Foundation, the charitable arm of Rotary International.

The four young professionals – who come from across the region and include reporter Jane O’Neill from the News Post Leader’s sister paper the Sunderland Echo – were selected from a list of candidates.

Peter added: “They will learn so much while in Brazil, but in addition will act as ambassadors for the north east of England.

“It is not an easy thing for any employer to release an employee for five weeks, but some are able to do it and see the benefits in terms of continuing professional development.”

The team leave for their South American adventure on Saturday.
