Police offer tack marking after number of thefts

POLICE in Bedlington are offering stable users and horse riders the opportunity to have their tack marked.

The neighbourhood policing team will be offering free marking on Sunday, March 24, at Bedlington Police Station, that allows officers to identify stolen property and return it to the owner.

Sergeant Michael Kelliher said: “There are people out there who will target stables and equestrian centres taking any opportunity to steal valuable equipment.

“I ask anyone who has tack equipment to come along to the station to have your equipment marked for free.

“This will allow us to identify your belongings should they be stolen.

“I must also stress the importance of keeping your belongings secured and don’t leave your horses unattended when saddled and dressed.”

Sergeant Kelliher and PCSO Bev Sellars will be at Bedlington Police Station between 9am and 4pm on Sunday, March 24, offering free marking for bridles and sadles.

They will also offer crime prevention advice.
