Prehistoric predators wow at Woodhorn - Video
HISTORIC predators which ruled the earth millions of years ago have dropped into Ashington.
Visitors at Woodhorn Museum can find out how the BBC Walking with Dinosaurs television show was created during a new exhibition that will open on Friday, Feburary 6.
The exhibition offers the chance to be able to discover some amazing special effects and ground breaking science that made TV history.
It was 65 million years ago that dinosaurs roamed the Earth, but in an incredible TV programme, the BBC used advanced computer technology to bring these astonishing creatures 'back to life' once more.
Woodhorn director Keith Merrin said: "For the first time in the north east this exhibition explains how state-of-the-art effects and scientific theory came together to create an entertaining and enlightening spectacle that enthralled millions of viewers.
"This unique exhibition reveals behind-the-scenes secrets of the award-winning series that recreated the time of the dinosaurs more realistically than ever before."
Visitors will be able to see the original life sized polyurethane heads used for close-ups and scale models used in digital animations; come face to face with full sized dinosaur replicas, real fossils and casts; play interactive computer games and discover the science behind the programme; watch a specially commissioned programme revealing how the series was made, and even place themselves in the prehistoric landscape using blue screen technology.
Tying in with the exhibition will be a programme of activities aimed at the younger generation, where each weekend and during the February and Easter holidays, youngsters will be able to dig for fossil specimens in the Explorers' Tent, and a Dinosaur Trail around the colliery buildings will be available.
Dinosaur face painting and balloon modelling will also be available on selected dates during the half term holiday.
Admission to the exhibition is 2.95 for children, 3.50 for concessions, 3.95 for adults and 12.50 for a family ticket.
