Private care agreements are limited

Families and residents involved in a privately arranged care situation in the county are being encouraged to ask the carer to come forward.

Private fostering is an arrangement that lasts for 28 days or more where the child is cared for by someone who is not a close relative.

The authority said notifying the council of a private arrangement helps keep the child and family protected and can also provide the family additional support.

Coun Robert Arckless, Northumberland County Council policy member for children’s services, said: “Northumberland is encouraging everyone to be aware of the legal requirement of letting us know about a private fostering arrangement, but also is promoting the value of the support and guidance that is available to our children and families.”
