Protesters throw brick through MP's window
DEFIANT pro-hunters hit out at the Blyth Valley MP's backing of the hunting ban by smashing his constituency office window.
A brick was thrown through the waiting room window of Ronnie Campbell's office in Renwick Road.
It was discovered when office staff arrived for work last Thursday, the day before the ban was enforced.
A note, attached to the brick, expressed support for the blood sport and announced plans for a protest and a hunt in the town.
Mr Campbell believes the same people are responsible for a similar incident which co-incided with the controversial debate about hunting in Parliament last year.
A brick was also thrown through the same window.
He said: "We were warned in Parliament that MP's offices would be targets for those people in support of hunting. So, it is no surprise. It is just one of those things.
"It is something that has happened in the past when people fight for what they believe in. Hunting is something have done for years.
"I went to Parliament, took part in a debate on hunting and voted against it. That is part of being a democracy."
The brick was thrown with such force, it bounced of the opposite wall and left the whole room and children's play corner covered in broken glass.
The note attached said: "News to all you hunters: A protest will take place in Blyth to protest against the ban on hunting with dogs.
"All you people that go shooting, lamping and ferreting are all welcome to come along and anyone else that would like to trail along, the more the merrier."
The protest was supposed to take place at the weekend with marching through Bebside before a hunt nearby.
Police investigating the criminal damage incident say they had received assurances from protesters there would be no law breaking.
