Residents caught in floods for second time in four years – Video

Waiting for Video...

RESIDENTS in a part of Morpeth ravaged by flood water have spoken about the disaster.

For the second time in four years the River Wansbeck burst its banks today, and residents of Mitford Road in the town were forced to evacuate their homes as water levels rose.

Mitford Road, adjacent to Morpeth Rugby Club and Dogger Bank, Whorall Bank, and Split Road in Clifton, were all closed due to flooding.

Northumbria Police is continuing to ask people to take extreme care due to the severe weather conditions in the region.

Advice is still not to travel on the roads unless necessary and anyone stuck in flooding in their car is asked to try and stay with their vehicle where possible.
