CAMPAIGNERS battling plans to build houses to the north of Cramlington town centre have held a fun day to highlight how important the open space is to residents.

The fun day, including a dog show, was held by Cramlington Save Our Space, a group set up in March to oppose Bellway and Persimmon’s plans to build houses on the land, off Station Road.

Ten winners were chosen in nine classes, including pug Winston, owned by Paul and Barbara Gregan, of Yarmouth Drive.

There was also a children’s poster competition, won by Chloe Brewis and Mark Hall.

Prizes also went to Emily Christy, Rebecca Johnstone and Savannah Houlden.

Organiser Pat Heard said: “It was a great day and names were also added to the petition, which is now at 610.”

“Cramlington SOS is now planning further events throughout the summer to foster community spirit and to continue to demonstrate their opposition to any development of this land that forms the heart of this community.”
