Residents to frame festival attractions

BUDDING photographers are being encouraged to send their pictures of the attractions being used in this weekend’s Northumberland Residents’ Festival.

Northumberland County Council is running a photo competition with a chance of winning a Canon digital camera as part of this year’s ‘our people, our places’ festival weekend.

Over the weekend, residents will be able to access free or discounted entry to 26 attractions celebrating the county.

Through the competition, the council wants to find the photographer who can best capture one of the attractions on offer.

It will also give people a chance to show what they think is their favourite tourist attraction within the county.

Entrants can either upload their best shots to the council’s Facebook page or send them to residentsfestival@gmail.com

Nigel Walsh, design and cultural services manager for Northumberland County Council, said: “We are really looking forward to seeing photos that show what residents feel is the very best about our county during the festival weekend.

“These could feature any of the attractions on offer from the iconic castles, or Hadrian’s Wall, to one of the festival’s newer attractions such as Kielder Water & Forest Park.

“We are interested in anything that shows the exceptional tourism features on offer in our distinctive county.”

The council will use the best pictures across their social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook.

“The winning entry will be chosen by a leading local photographer.”

To enter, post your photo to the Northumberland Facebook wall - www.facebook.com/NorthumberlandCC - stating where you visited and tagging yourself in the picture, or e-mail pictures to residentsfestival@gmail.com

To stand a chance of winning, entrants also need to provide personal details and the location visited.

Entrants can send photos that include people, but must ensure they get their permission first.

A second competition is being offered to those who visit one of the 26 venues over the weekend.

By completing a residents’ festival voucher, they will be automatically entered into a draw for an English Heritage VIP voucher valid for all Northumberland sites for a year.

Both competitions will close at midnight on Monday, March 18, and the winning photograph publicised on the council’s ‘What to do’ Facebook page.

Festival brochures including vouchers are available from local libraries, council offices, tourist information centres, sports centres and a variety of supermarkets, and can be downloaded from the council’s web page.
