RNLI open day

BLYTH RNLI will be holding an open day on Sunday (July 5) at the station in South Harbour.

The event will be opened by Hannah Bayman of BBC Look North and visitors will be able to talk to the crew talk about lifeboats.

The Blyth RNLI Station has a 200-year history of saving lives at sea and during those years the class of lifeboats has changed from sail and oar, to today's sate of the art power craft cable of speeds of 25 knots.

Other attractions will include, stalls, boat trips, face painting, teas and refreshments, and the Summer Draw will be made.

This year there will be a special visit of the RNLI Road Show, giving free information and advice to small boat owners about safety at sea including life jackets, flares, radio, and maintenance of boats and equipment, and how to call for help if something goes wrong.

Visitor will also be able to see the lifeboat 'Jennie B' which during 2008 was launched on 16 occasions.

The event runs from 12.45pm until 4.30pm at the RNLI Lifeboat Station, North Gate, South Harbour Blyth.
