Safety firm shortlisted in national awards

A LEADING safety manufacturer has been shortlisted in all nine categories of a national award.

Blyth-based Draeger Safety UK Ltd, one of the main manufacturers in safety technology, achieved its success in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Manufacturing Excellence 2012 awards.

Malcolm Irving, head of operations at Draeger Safety UK, said: “To be shortlisted in all categories for the national awards is a real testament to the hard work, dedication and skills of the team here at Draeger Safety UK and demonstrates our commitment to manufacturing and service at a regional, national and international level.”

At to mark the achievement, the company received a visit from Blyth Valley MP Ronnie Campbell along with representatives of the awards.

Mr Irving added: “We hop the visit showcases the work being achieved at Draeger Safety UK and also the high level of skills we have within the north east manufacturing sector.”

Mr Campbell said: “It was a pleasure and privilege seeing in action the fantastic work of the people at the Draeger Safety UK plant in Blyth.

“Draeger Safety UK is a real success story and apart from providing jobs and investment for the local community, it is very encouraging that the company has been shortlisted for all nine categories of the manufacturing excellence programme.

“I wish the company all the best in this prestigious awards process.”

While Philippa Oldham, head of manufacturing at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said: “Draeger Safety UK is a great business which is helping to keep manufacturing at the heart of not only Northumberland’s economy but that of the wider north east region.”
