School fence to improve safety and security

A WANSBECK school is to get a new fence to improve the safety and security of the site.

Northumberland County Council's planning and environment committee agreed plans to construct a 2.4 metre boundary fence with gate at Wansbeck First School in Wansbeck Road, Ashington.

Planning officer Sarah Laverick said: "The proposed boundary fencing is required to improve the safety and security of the school.

"The school has recently experienced a number of problems with thefts, vandalism and intruders which has left the school vulnerable.

"This has meant that the school children have not been able to fully utilise all of the available outdoor play areas.

"The proposed development would secure an existing school site for the safety of pupils, staff and visitors."
