School gets a new guard rail

Wansbeck First School in Ashington has seen a high visibility guard rail installed outside the school in an effort to safeguard the children and alleviate parking issues.

Northumberland County Council’s public protection service’s community safety team, in partnership with the school, has installed the 65-metre rail as a long term solution to reduce the number of parking offences, improve traffic congestion outside the school during opening and closing times and increase public safety.

Coun Dave Ledger, deputy leader of the council, said: “This is a great example of an effective partnership that has worked well to solve a serious problem at the school. Creating a safe and secure environment for pupils and their parents, as well as the residents on Wansbeck Road was a high priority.”
