A Cramlington school is celebrating after forming its first ever football team.

Children at Burnside Primary School approached headteacher Jane Ramsay to ask if they could set up a school team.

Two pupils already play for Newcastle United Academy and four for Northumberland County, but they wanted to represent their own school.

The school approached First Class Supply and Training Agency for sponsorship and it provided full football strips for all the boys, including a kit bag for the coach.

Coach John Ray, a parent governor of the school, said: “The boys are putting their heart and soul into playing for their school.

“Their first match was for the Premier League Schools Tournament 2013 where they reached the quarter-finals.

“With their skills, coupled with their enthusiasm, I think we can only go from strength to strength.”
