Shoppers encouraged to keep elderly warm this winter

A SHOPPING centre in Blyth is doing their bit to help the elderly stay warm this winter.

The Keel Row Shopping Centre is asking customers to bring in their unwanted blankets and knitwear which will then be handed over to Age UK Northumberland as part of the centre’s Keep Warm This Winter campaign.

Michelle Muckle, trading and corporate services manager at Age UK Northumberland, said: “With temperatures continuing to fall it would be really useful to have any spare blankets people are able to donate.

“It is a difficult time of year for many of our service users with people struggling to pay heating bills.

“We appreciate all donations and hope we can help keep the elderly warm this winter.”

Donations can be handed in at the centre management office until Saturday, February 9. Items must be in good condition.

Centre manager Callum Reid said: “We appreciate any donations that people can bring in.”
