A BLYTH academy has opened its doors for the first time to sixth form students.

Bede Academy opened in 2009 with students only up to Year 9 with a plan to grow as the young people got older.

This summer those students, now aged 16 and 17, made history by being the first at Bede to take their GCSE examinations.

Many have now returned to lead the way once again as its first sixth formers, along with a number of students from other schools in the area.
