Spartans grant a wish for Callum

A NORTHUMBERLAND youngster has been given an honorary season ticket to his local club after they helped him in his fundraising drive.

Callum Brown has already undergone two hip operations and has started a six-month intensive exercise programme to prepare him for a major operation in America in February.

The eight-year-old, of Seaton Sluice, was born with cerebral palsy and his parents are busy trying to raise £70,000 for him to undergo a selective dorsal rhizotomy operation in St Louis to help him walk unaided.

Blyth Spartans this week donated an honorary season ticket for the 2012/13 season to Callum, following a fundraising day at Croft Park when Spartans played Hednesford Town, raising just over £300.

Spartans general manager Ian Evans said that since Callum attended the Hednesford game he had made return trips to Croft Park and saw his first Spartans win in the FA Cup game against Garforth Town on Saturday.

Ian said: “He has shown a real passion for the club, so we decided to get new signing Neal Hooks to present him with an honorary season ticket.

“I found Callum to be a very determined young guy. Determined to raise the funds needed to pay for his op, determined to get to the States in order to get his op and, if I might say, determined to get a season ticket for Croft Park.

“Ever since his visit here as a mascot I know that he has pestered his mum and dad for a return trip, something he has in fact managed for each of our home games to date.

“The club had no hesitation in presenting Callum with an “honorary” season ticket for season 2012/13. I hope he enjoys his trips to watch The Spartans.”

Callum’s mum Sharon said: “Callum has been overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone at the Spartans he is always made very welcome and has become a big fan and the season ticket just means he will be able to watch them at every home game which he is very pleased about.”

Everybody at the club wishes Callum all the best for his operation, which is now scheduled for February 2013 and look forward to seeing him and his family become regular visitors to Croft Park this season and beyond.
