Young sports enthusiasts will be able to take advantage of a scholarship opportunity at Blyth Spartans next season.
The football club, in association with VLUK and SB Sports and Education Ltd, will be running the scheme aimed at young people aged 16 to 18.
The course is a BTEC National Level 3 diploma, which is equivalent to three A-levels, in sport science and will be based at Croft Park.
The tutorial side is all online with a fully trained tutor present to support each student individually.
And scholars will work through 19 units on a two-year course which starts in September 2014.
The club’s own facilities will be used for training and fixtures in the practical elements.
Games will be played against teams from across the country, and working alongside the football club the aim is to help individuals develop both in respect of a good education and practical abilities.
Scholars can also access other vocational qualifications such as Level 1 coaching.
Spartans’ general manager Ian Evans said: “This is an exciting development for the club.
“The project will use the former Playing For Success suite at Croft Park which is an ideal learning environment.”
