Special day out to mark school's closure

A SCHOOL has treated pupils and staff to a special day out as part of a series of events to mark the school's final term before it closes to make way for a new academy.

The children and staff from Wensleydale Middle in Blyth enjoyed a trip to Herrington Country Park in Sunderland last Friday.

Eleven coaches transported 550 children, teachers, teaching assistants, cooks, cleaners and administration staff to take part in a day of activities, which was paid for with the help of fundraising raffles and events at the school.

During the day children chose from ten activities to take part in including football, rounders, photography, sketching, pond dipping, orienteering and games.

After lunching in the amphitheatre, the highlight of the day was the final of the 'Wensleydale's Got Talent' competition.

Head teacher Neil Jones said: "As part of our celebrations to mark the final year of the school, we were very keen to involve all staff and all children in this day out.

"The event took a lot of organisation but it was worth the effort as everyone said how much they had enjoyed the day."

Wensleydale Middle School will close its doors, after a successful 31 years, on July 17, to make way for the new Bede Academy in Blyth.
