Staff have their eyes on the target as they raise money for young Eve

STAFF at an Ashington store have raised money for a local girl suffering from locked-in syndrome.

Employees at Specsavers were moved to action after reading about nine-year-old Eve Anderson.

In February 2011, Eve – a sporty, dance-loving youngster – collapsed at her home and developed locked-in syndrome, and is now only able to communicate through blinking.

Staff at Specsavers held a fancy dress day, with some dressing in princess outfits and sporting a bad hair day, raising £100 for the youngster.

Store director Darren Walker said: “Everyone had a fantastic day and we got some cracking reactions from customers.

“We read about Eve and decided to raise funds for her and her family.

“The staff really wanted to do something that Eve would appreciate and be reflective of her personality.

“I would like to say a huge well done to the staff and a huge thank you to all our customers that came along and gave so generously.”
