Taffy helps children read between lines

PUPILS have been reading between the lines while taking part in an initiative to promote a love of reading.

Storyteller Taffy Thomas called in at Cragside Primary School in Cramlington to talk to youngsters about reading and the benefits they can get from it.

Students at the school have been taking part in a project to highlight the importance of reading, an initiative backed up by improvements to its library facilities and the provision of new books.

Headteacher Janice Craven said: “Taffy spent an afternoon talking to pupils.

“It’s high profile having the storytelling laureate visiting the school.

“It’s all part of the drive to promote a love of reading.”

Former drama and literature teacher Taffy, the country’s first government-appointed storytelling laureate, travels around the country from his home in Grasmere in Cumbria to talk to youngsters about reading and encourage them to read more at school and home.
