Thieves target beauty salons
POLICE in Bedlington are asking the public to be vigilant after two beauty salons have been targeted by thieves over the last couple of days.
Between 12pm on Monday, February 22, and 10am on Tuesday, February 23, someone broke into the Vanity beauty salon, in Ravensworth Terrace, making off with items of jewellery.
Then, between 7pm on Tuesday, February 23, and 9.30am, on Wednesday, February 24, thieves tried to break into to the Blitz beauty salon, Leander Avenue, but were unable to get inside. A bicycle was taken from outside the property.
Officers believe the two incidents are linked.
Bedlington neighbourhood inspector Ross Davidson said: "I'd like anyone with any information about these two break-ins to contact the police.
"If you may have seen anything suspicious or maybe have been offered anything taken for sale then get in touch with us as soon as possible.
"We will be making immediate contact with all local businesses who are part of our Shopwatch scheme to alert them to the possibility that they could be targeted and to provide them with crime prevention advice
Derek Graham, crime prevention advisor for Northumberland area command said: "I'd also ask for business owners to help us lock thieves out by taking some simple precautions - ensure all electrical equipment is property marked and is stored securely at the end of the working day.
"Don't leave cash on the premises over night and display overt signs warning of this. Ensure that all doors, capable of being closed and locked, are secured correctly at the end of each day.
"If you want any more information or want to speak to your local crime prevention adviser then contact your local neighbourhood team and they will put you in touch with us."
