A housing firm has won a national excellence award for their latest development in Bedlington.
Bernicia won the National Excellence Award for the Social Housing Development of the year 2013 for Willow Vale retirement apartments in Bedlington.
The project delivered in partnership with Bernicia, Northumberland County Council and Northumberland Care Trust, was built by Gentoo Construction and attracted £790,000 of financial support from the Homes and Communities Agency.
The retirement apartments are now occupied mostly by the former residents of Glebe Court.
Jeff Boyd, head of development services at Bernicia, said: “The award demonstrates Bernicia’s commitment to providing quality homes not only by the design and facilities of the building but by the overall quality of construction which will improve the standard of living for all of the residents.”
The new scheme represents the second phase of a £7.4m supported housing project – the final phase will see a further ten two and three bedroom bungalows built adjacent to Willow Vale.
