Health chiefs are celebrating after being named as a regional leader.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has won NHS Board of the Year at the first North East NHS Leadership Academy awards, which celebrate leaders across the region.
The board is responsible for fronting the trust’s drive to continuously improve the quality of patient care in hospitals and in the community and its commitment to listening to feedback, while spearheading programmes to develop its 9,000-strong workforce.
The award comes just a few months after Northumbria Healthcare was named provider trust of the year at the prestigious national Health Service Journal (HSJ) awards.
Brian Flood, chairman of the trust, said: “We are delighted that the leadership and vision of our board has been recognised regionally.
“As an organisation we are passionate about continuously improving so that we can provide the highest quality care to our patients across Northumberland and North Tyneside and listening to patients and relatives and acting on what they tell us.
“We invest in nurturing and developing our staff and we are extremely proud of our culture where everyone is empowered to make improvements and strive for excellence in their role.”
As a regional winner, Northumbria Healthcare now qualifies for the national NHS Leadership Academy finals, which are set to take place next month.
The awards acknowledged NHS leaders who demonstrate excellence in leadership, continuous quality improvements and development of staff.
