The popular Heritage Open Days are returning next month with the chance to discover the hidden history of the north east.

Every year on four days in September, from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors.

This year will include St Cuthbert’s Church in Bedlington, which was housed the body of St Cuthbert in 1060 before internment at Durham Cathedral.

On the Saturday refreshments will be available throughout the day, together with craft stalls and musical interludes, and on Sunday, September 14, in addition to the normal services at 8am and 9.30pm the church will be open for viewing from 2pm to 4pm.

In Blyth, the Battery will be open from 11am to 4pm on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with tours available and children’s activities including marching games and crafts.
