Victim has his pockets searched in failed theft

A MAN was grabbed and searched by a would-be robber in a broad daylight attack.

Police are appealing for information after an attempted robbery in Ashington, that happened at around 10.50am on Monday.

The 66-year-old man was walking in Bertram Terrace, near to the junction with Cavendish Gardens, when he was approached from behind by a man on a bicycle.

The man spoke to the 66-year-old before grabbing him and searching his pockets.

The victim managed to get away and the offender shouted threats at him before making off on the bike – believed to be a BMX.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and who may have seen what happened to contact them.

They particularly want to identify and trace the driver of a silver car that is believed to have stopped and spoken to the victim and offender just after the incident happened.

Anyone with information can call the non-emergency number 101 ext 69191.
