Visually impaired club bowls its way to raise funds

VISUALLY impaired bowlers were competing against staff from a local bowling alley to raise funds for their mini bus.

Members of the Northumberland Viking Bowling Club were at the XS Bowling Alley in Longbenton to raise money for the club so that they can continue to run a mini bus.

Bowlers from the club competed against staff and members of the public who had to wear goggles replicating the effects of visual impairment.

One pair of goggles creates tunnel vision, whilst others create complete lack of sight or only allow the smallest amount of light in.

Andrew Mawdsley won the Karen Thompson Award, named in honour of a former member.
