Workshops a fair cop for teens

THE force has been with youngsters in Cramlington.

The town’s neighbourhood policing team has been running a series of workshops with pupils at Cramlington Learning Village to give them a better idea of the different roles that officers have to carry out.

The students visited the force’s air support unit’s base at Newcastle Airport and were shown around a police station and custody cell complex.

Pc John Caisley said: “If we can engage with young people early on, then we can work to change how they see the police.

“We want to educate them about everything that goes into keeping their area safe and hopefully get them to understand the consequences of criminal behaviour.

“The activity was great. We got to speak to the children, get involved with them and really get a good understanding of what they thought about police.

“The feedback we have had from the pupils and staff at the school has been excellent, and it’s something that we will definitely look to do again.”

David Wardle, the school’s pastoral support officer, said: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience which was appreciated by all who took part.”
