Young people preparing to host their first festive event

A YOUTH club is preparing to host its first ever Christmas community event.

Young people attending the Newsham Getaway Friday night youth club will open the doors of Newsham Pavilion on Friday, December 21.

The club, run by Newsham and New Delaval Youth Forum since April, will serve hot drinks and home-made treats free of charge from 6pm.

There will also be music, a children’s activity table and a raffle, the proceeds of which will be used to buy more equipment for the youth club.

Youth development worker Eva Nelson said: “The young people have done some fantastic things at the club this year since it opened in April.

“They have taken part in anti-bullying activities, cooked for each other, created and sold crafts to raise money for the local church, and now they are hosting this Christmas event.

“It is a great opportunity for them to give something back to their local community.”
