A group of youngsters have helped raise hundreds of pounds for a charity supporting older people.

The young people, part of The Prince’s Trust team based at East Hartford Fire Station, near Cramlington, took part in a sponsored blind challenge at Northumberlandia.

They were raising the money on behalf of Mind Active, who support volunteers to improve the lives of older people living in residential care homes and people living with dementia in their own homes.

A special presentation took place at the fire station where the youngsters – joined by project manager Stephen Ward – presented a cheque for nearly £250 to charity trustee Judy Wilbourne.

Judy thanked staff at the first station and the Prince’s Trust team for their dedication, commitment and community support.

A total of 13 youngsters took part in the 12-week course which taught them a wide range of skills and how to help their local community.
