Youngsters have been helping improve their environment thanks to a new partnership.

Staff at the Lintonville Parkway McDonald’s, in Ashington, teamed up with the Ashington Eagles football team to tidy a stretch of the river Wansbeck.

The work helped cement a new partnership between the two.

Shift manager Lee Auld, who organised the event said: “It’s great to be given the chance to get out in the community and give something back.

“Ashington Eagles have had a tricky start but the kids are a great bunch and they put in a hard day’s work making where they live a nicer place.”

With assistance from Northumberland Council, who provided litter pickers, refuse bags and collected the rubbish, the local partnership spent the day collecting litter from both banks of the Wansbeck.

McDonald’s will provide brand new football kits to the Ashington Eagles team as the two look to grow their affiliation.
