A community learning disability nurse from Northumberland has been honoured with a Queen’s Nursing Institute Long Service Award.
The award is given to nurses who have worked for 21 years or more in the community in recognition of an outstanding contribution to community healthcare.
Sharon Willey, who is community learning disability nursing service lead at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, has received the award in recognition of her work in Northumberland.
Sharon said: “When I started my nurse training I realised I wanted to make a long term positive contribution to supporting people with a learning disability to live valued lives in their local community.
“We can all make a difference by improving life opportunities, choice, control and good health and wellbeing outcomes for people with a learning disability.”
