A WOMEN from New Hartley has been enjoying her landmark birthday by being serenaded by some local children.

Mary Jane Murray, now fondly known as Mainie Thompson to her friends, took in her 100th birthday with an all day party at St Michaels Church in New Hartley, which also included year 4 pupils from New Hartley First School siging their own version of ‘Happy Birthday’ to her.

Born on 25 June 1912 at Westbourne Terrace, Seaton Delaval, Mainie worked as a nurse at Ponteland Hospital for a number of years, before meeting her late husband Norman. Together they had a son David and Mainie is now a proud grandmother of three and a great grandmother to three boys William, 9, Thomas, 7, and Matthew, who’s 2.
