Move needs the rail link

I have just read of the county council’s approval to move County Hall from Morpeth to Ashington (News Post Leader, October 9).

On balance I think that it will be a good thing, but I also think that transport will be a problem.

The A189 Spine Road is already very busy at the morning and afternoon peaks.

Is it not now time for our councillors to put their full weight behind to re-opening of the passenger rail link?

Network Rail’s costings for the project are to say the least questionable, and many think that the marginal cost of putting passenger traffic back onto the line is well below its multi-million pound estimates.

County council employees as well as local residents will benefit from a half hourly Tyne, Blyth, Wansbeck service.
