Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery has given his support to a food collection drive.
Mr Lavery visited Asda in Ashington last Friday to help Wansbeck Valley Food Bank (WVFB) and its food drive.
The aim of the food bank is to help people in the area who find themselves needing food in an emergency, which could come from a delay in receiving benefits, being long term unemployed or struggling to cope with rising prices.
Those in most need of food are referred to the WVFB from one of its partners, which includes Citizen’s Advice Bureau, GPs, health visitors and other care providers.
Distribution centres are based in Morpeth and Ashington, with another in Newbiggin opening soon and more expected over the next 12 months.
Each food parcel contains balanced meals for three days and is a stop gap supply while a long-term solution is sought.
