A Cramlington man is looking to help budding musicians hit the right notes by designing and producing a new bass guitar.

Jimmy Powells created the Classic 25 short scale electric bass guitar to make it easier for anyone making the transfer from a normal guitar, which is normally 25in scale length, to a bass guitar.

The Classic 25 weighs six pounds and is semi-hollow, much lighter than a normal electric bass guitar, which can weigh nine to ten pounds.

Jimmy, 66, a semi-professional musician and collector and trader of musical instruments, said: “It’s ideal for anyone who might find a full scale bass uncomfortable including players with short reach, small hands, children and those used to smaller instruments like guitars, ukuleles or mandolins.”
