A Blyth taxi company is offering a more flexible service to its disabled customers.

Phoenix Taxis has taken delivery of a new vehicle which features an innovative wheelchair accessibility conversion thanks to Northern Truck Bodies (NTB), a division of Vic Young Nissan (South Shields) Ltd.

The new vehicle eliminates the need to physically remove seats for wheelchair use and can be used by up to three wheelchair users, eight passengers or a mix of both.

Key features include rear seats that rotate to the side, full height rear door for easy access, vinyl floor and seats and a rear-entry ramp.

Hughie Hurst, managing director at Phoenix Taxis, said: “A number of our vehicles are wheelchair accessible and although this is an important revenue stream for the business, this multipurpose concept will enable us to use the vehicle for all passengers – meaning we can provide a more flexible service.”

Vic Young, managing director at NTB, said: “Every detail has been purposefully designed with the needs, comfort and safety of the passengers in mind.

“We are confident that this multipurpose vehicle will make an impact in the taxi market.”
