A GARDEN centre worker is taking part in next month’s RunLiverpool Marathon in aid of charity.

Nic Crofts, 36, is doing the marathon, on Sunday, October 9, to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice in Gosforth.

He said: “I ran the Great North Run last year, but I haven’t taken part in a marathon before, so it will be a challenge.

“I have been doing a lot of training, and I’ve taken part in three road races already this year.

“I am currently running twice a week and normally do 20 to 30 miles in total, as well as playing five-a-side football once a week.”

Nic, a hardy nursery stock expert at Morpeth’s Heighley Gate Garden Centre, added: “St Oswald’s is a fantastic cause and one of the garden centre’s charities of the year for 2011.

“I have already collected £907 for three local charities from the three races I’ve completed this year, and I am hoping to raise £300 from the RunLiverpool Marathon for St Oswald’s.

“I raised £550 for the hospice after completing the Great North Run in 2010.”
