A grandmother from the county has been named a runner up in a national competition to find the country’s most glamourous grannies.
Nicola Henderson, from Ashington, came second in the Mirror’s glam gran competition, narrowly missong out on the top prize of a 12-month contract with modelling agency Mrs Robinson.
Nicola, who has two grandsons – one-year-old Jayden and six-year-old Robert – nominated herself for the honour after her friend saw the competition. “My friend saw on TV that they were looking for Britain’s most glamourous gran, and she asked me to enter,” she said.
“I was picked out of all the entries to be shortlisted for the top five, and then a public vote to decide the top three where I was picked again and got second place overall.”
The 44-year-old, who trains at Cambois Rowing Club, added: “I have always loved fashion and try to keep myself smart.
“I love matching my outfits and putting them together with accessories, you don’t need to spend a lot to look good.
“The comments and lovely messages since I won have been overwhelming.”
