A county shopping centre plans to celebrate its place on the Tour of Brtain 2015 route with a unique name change.

In the run up to the Tour of Britain, Manor Walks Shopping & Leisure in Cramlington, is undergo a transformation, with a new name and plans to install a brand new cycle lane into its car park.

Manor Walks plans to become ‘Manor Cycles’ to show its support and celebrate the Tour of Britain’s passing of the shopping centre in stage four of the event.

The Tour of Britain riders will be passing through Cramlington and by Manor Walks today, Wednesday, September 9, around 3pm.

Vikki Mather, engagement officer at Manor Walks, said: “The Tour of Britain is an important event in our calendar this year, and even more so with our shopping centre being part of the route.

“It’s an exciting time for our staff and local customers, and the proposed new additions to the shopping centre, including our plans to install the cycle lane, will be beneficial to all of our visitors.

“Whilst renaming our centre would be significant transformation, we see it as the perfect opportunity to join in with our customers, connect communities and support this fantastic event.”

The Tour of Britain’s existence can be traced back to the 1950s in some form, however the annual sporting race, and main cycling event in Britain, was revived in 2004 and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2013.
