A Cramlington man has been appointed as the first site warden at the iconic Northumberlandia landform.
Wayne Henderson, who had been out of work since 2000, will take on the role of looking after the Lady of the North, on the outskirts of Cramlington.
Wayne joined the job club at Azure Charitable Enterprise, who are part of the team which manage Northumberlandia on behalf of national environmental charity the Land Trust.
Wayne said: “I basically fell in love with the place.
“What the Banks Group and the Blagdon Estate have created here is really special, it feels such a privilege to be working in such a beautiful environment and I couldn’t keep the smile of my face.”
Duncan Hutt from the Northumberland Wildlife Trust, said: “We’ve seen Wayne grow from a volunteer who was a sound bloke and worked hard but preferred to stay in the background, into a friendly outgoing character who is real asset to the park.
“Therefore when the opportunity arose to take on someone to be ‘front of house’ at Northumberlandia, he was the obvious choice.”
Northumberlandia is open every day from 9.30am to 4pm.
