A £1.65m development scheme at Port of Blyth has been officially opened by the Duchess of Northumberland.
Blyth Education And Community Hub (BEACH) includes the striking Blyth Boathouse building.
The adjacent Blyth Marine Station provides Newcastle University with a new marine sciences facility alongside their research vessel Princess Royal, which is also berthed in the port.
A new quay development completes phase 1 of the BEACH project serving the important regional fishing industry and offering a permanent home for the Princess Royal.
Port chief executive, Martin Lawlor, said: “We are delighted to have successfully completed phase 1 of the project which will provide positive benefits to the community as a whole and prove a huge asset to the area.
“We are already working on an existing potential BEACH phase 2 which may include a new training centre subject to further discussion with our various partners.”
