Two ‘owls’ have flown the nest after nearly 90 years of service between them.

Doreen Gilhespie and Anne Gould have retired from Girlguiding and their Brownie pack in New Hartley after 88 years service in total.

Their work and dedication was marked with an afternoon celebration and thanksgiving service in St Michael’s Church, where they have met with their Brownie unit every week for the past 44 years.

They were joined by Brownies past and present.

Doreen, a Brown Owl, said: “Not everyone can or wants to commit the time that I have.

“I have had remarkable rewards, especially being part of so many children’s lives in their formative years, this has enriched my life.”

Anne added: “Over the last 44 years being a Brownie Guider has played a large part in my life. However, with the work comes lots of pleasure and fun.”
