A FUNDRAISING event brought in almost £2,000 for the oncology unit at Wansbeck General Hospital.
Paige Mullin and Rachel Hall, both of Ashington, organised a special charity evening to show their appreciation for the work done on the ward by hospital staff.
Both girls’ grandparents had received treatment on the ward and they wanted to raise money to help pay for equipment for other patients.
Paige said: “Both myself and Rachel were really pleased with everyone who turned up on the night to show their support.
“Not only does it mean a lot to us, the ward and its patients can benefit from the funds that were raised, so we’d like to say thanks to everyone who came and supported us and a big thank you to all the staff at the unit.
“The staff and the work they do is always greatly appreciated by my grandad, and was by Rachel’s nanna who sadly has passed away since the fundraiser.”
On the night there was everything from raffle tickets to a tombola for a signed Newcastle United T-shirt.
The event raised a total of £1,968.50p and a cheque presentation was made by Paige and Rachel to members of staff on the unit
