A south east Northumberland woman is going on a mammoth trek to raise funds for a charity close to her heart.
Pat Heard, from Falmouth Walk, Cramlington, is taking on the Canadian Rockies to raise money for Newcastle’s Marie Curie Hospice.
“I’ve had personal experience having lost my husband two years ago, and I am now helping to care for my father, John, who is terminally ill with liver cancer,” she said.
“I know that Marie Curie are there to help.
“The hospice in Newcastle is an amazing and peaceful place, so I hope that local people and businesses will be willing to donate to my fundraising.”
Pat will be joined by a team of trekkers who will set off from Calgary on September 13 and trek north for five days.
“So many families are touched by cancer, and other terminal illnesses, and the Marie Curie Centre helps so many people in the later stages of their lives, as well as the families of the people attached to them,” she added.
“That for me is why I’m so fond of the organisation.”
