A PENSIONER has been conned out of £2,000 by bogus callers posing as decorators.
Two men knocked on the door of an elderly resident in Ridley Terrace, Cambois, at 4pm last Thursday, offering to carry out decorating work.
The pair’s victim invited the men in to discuss the supposed work, but once inside, they took £2,000 off the pensioner before leaving in a white van.
The driver of the van is described as being around 6ft tall, of chubby build, and with short dark brown hair. He was wearing dark jeans and a white top.
The other man is around 6ft 2in tall, of broad build, with greying hair. He was wearing grey overalls.
The van is thought to have had ladders on top and a side sliding door.
Detective Chief Inspector Mandy Shea said: “We believe the men may have been hanging around in the area before the incident happened.
“If anyone thinks they saw this van in the area on Thursday, I’d ask them to contact us.
“Criminals who target the elderly in our communities need to be caught.
“These type of crimes are cowardly, and the police and our communities won’t tolerate conmen and fraudsters taking advantage of the most vulnerable in our society.
“We are carrying out inquiries and looking at possible CCTV footage.”
Police are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 03456 043043 ext 69191.
