A princess and pirate-themed party held at Ashington’s North Seaton Community Centre by the town’s Survivors Achieving Freedom for Everyone (Safe) group raised more then £400.

Almost £150 of that will go to the special care baby unit at Ashington’s Wansbeck General Hospital, and the rest will go to the group’s funds to help pay for future events.

Some 50 families attended the four-hour event at the Links View centre.

Children were served hotdog lunchboxes, and adults were given home-made broth.

A minion and Olaf, characters from the kids’ films Despicable Me and Frozen, were on hand to entertain youngsters, as was a fire engine.

Games and competitions were held too.

Safe spokeswoman Ashley Blakey said: “We would like to say a massive thank-you to all who attended and supported us and to all the volunteers for their hard work and efforts.”
